Worldview

When posed the question "What is your Worldview" I had to stop and think. I knew it was based on spirituality, but I had to think of the question holistically.

I believe we are products of our environment and upbringing. No matter how difficult or priveledged ones upbringing, we develop certain values and beliefs about the world around us. A significant part of my childhood consisted of Bible study and attending Church services. I lived in a community that did the same. That foundation helped shape my my mind to view the world as I do. My wife listed four characteristics that encompass Worldview and summarized the importance of each from her point of view.

  • Attitude- I try my best to keep a positive attitude no matter what the situation. I know if I keep the right attitude not just through good times, but also the bad, I will be blessed.

  • Values- Similar to my wife, as far as a the most important value, is forgiveness. I also place thankfulness and love at the top of the list. Not to sound cliché, but if we all learned to love each other for who we are, we would be heading in the right direction of what Jesus REALLY wants for us. I am blessed and I am thankful everyday I wake up. I am not just thankful for the good. I thank the Lord when I am going through it, because I know there is a lesson behind it to make me a better person.
  • Beliefs- I sincerely believe we are all connected. Although some are not believers we are all Gods children and he wants the best for us. All my beliefs are principles of the Bible. We are all under God's grace.

  • Philosophy- Treat others how you want to be treated. Live life ethically, morally and responsibly!
We are living in troubling times. Times that can slightly change Worldview (especially African American WV). I am an African American man who understands the plight against my race. I remain optimistic that things will get better. There is plenty of Love in our country. From the Caucasians that sat with African American Freedom Riders to the encouraging numbers that show up to the more recent protests, there is reason to be optimistic. In the words of Rodney King and I quote " Can't we all just get along."
